I became fascinated with the idea of the Hybrid. Elephant was taken at Wisley Gardens in Surrey as I started to shoot work where the lines where blurred as to the identity of the subject. Was it an animal or a plant or maybe both? The work details the plant Calocasia (commonly known as ( Elephant Ears ), perfectly mimicking the animal in colour, texture and behaviour. The work deals with harmony and balance. It is beautifully split in terms of the aperture, its texture and colour like a creative yin and yang. In Chinese philosophy, yin and yang describe how seemingly opposite or contrary forces may actually be complementary, interconnected, and interdependent in the natural world, and how they may give rise to each other as they interrelate to one another.
